Pamela, you can use Date Syrup. Low glycemic load and I have never reacted to this sweetener! I have so many allergies, that I must now keep a section on sweeteners, and other food additives, and my reactions, to everything
I do react to! I have slowly eliminated ALL of the supposedly safe, nontoxic food additives, except for a very few. I still am using Stevia, in the raw, for now.
I used to be diabetic! Yeah, USED TO BE DIABETIC!!! I am no longer considered diabetic by all of my doctors. I find, though, my reactions to real sugar, in just about any form, is still nausea, if I use sugar in amounts more than my body can adjust to, or tolerate.
I have taken this recipe and am experimenting with the Date syrup and other low glycemic sweeteners to get a taste that I love straight out of the bottle. I really like this BBQ sauce recipe, as it allows me to eliminate all of those hot peppers. I cannot eat anything seasoned with, or cooked with any pepper that is rated on the Scoville heat chart! No kidding. Dining out is a restaurant by restaurant experience. I usually follow the whole foods rules as closely as I am able. My life is complicated, and eating out is usually limited to the smaller restaurants that will cook for me without adding any seasoning. I carry my own seasonings, and salad dressing. I make my own, life is just simpler this way. This recipe for BBQ sauce is easy to make for me, and I am overjoyed to find it! BBQ sauce has been impossible to make without seasonings that come in a rub to start. That never worked because of the additives in the rubs. This recipe is perfect for me. I am close to the perfect eating taste and am getting ready to begin adding to meats before cooking or grilling! This recipe is wonderful! Sorry this was so long!

Our body metabolizes it the same as table sugar .
