This Weight Watchers ice cream recipe has all the delicious flavor you are looking for without the added fat, sugar, or points. WW Ice Cream is a quick and easy homemade ice cream made with chocolate and bananas!

Sometimes called banana ice cream or “nice cream” because it’s a healthy alternative, this easy recipe has all the flavors and texture to satisfy your urge without the guilt.

This recipe will satisfy your sweet tooth for sure. Naturally sweet, bananas are a great way to add some sweetness while still being sugar free.

Whether you eat this out of a bowl or turn it into mini ice cream sandwiches or even ice cream bars, you can enjoy this delicious treat while losing weight.

I love making this skinny treat instead of looking for a store bought product with the lowest Weight Watchers points, like Halo Top. This has fewer ingredients and doesn’t require a trip to the store.

Ingredients for this recipe

  • Ripe Bananas (frozen bananas if you can!)
  • Almond milk
  • Vanilla extract 
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder

Directions:

This is a super easy recipe–the most time consuming part is the time it takes to freeze!

  1. Blend Add ripe bananas, almond milk, vanilla extract, and cocoa powder to your food processor or blender. Blend on high for about one minute until everything is creamy and smooth.
  2. Freeze Transfer your ice cream to a freezer safe dish and freeze for an hour or until ice cream has hardened. This time varies based on your freezer and the container you use to freeze.

  Recipe tips and questions

  • Thinly slice your bananas, place them on a cookie sheet, and freeze for 30 minutes before adding to the food processor. This way you can eat your ice cream immediately. Sliced bananas freeze faster than full bananas or the entire bowl of ice cream. 
  • You may need to stop your food processor and scrape the sides a couple times. This makes your ice cream really creamy and removes all chunks. 
  • Start with less cocoa powder and adjust flavor to your liking. 
  • You can substitute any nut milk you prefer, just double check your points.
  • Need something more? Add a few chocolate chips, some peanut butter, or even some Cool Whip on top of this dessert! Of course, recalculate your points after.
  • Looking for more of a vanilla ice cream flavor? Skip the chocolate in this recipe. You’ll still taste bananas, though–fyi.
  • Your serving size will depend on the size of the bananas you use. For the most accurate counts, divide the entire recipe in half after making it and count that as 2 servings.
  • Yes, this is a vegan recipe!

We love adding low fat chocolate graham crackers, fat free whipped cream, fresh fruit, frozen non-fat Greek yogurt covered berries, 100 calorie packs of almonds, or a tablespoon of peanut butter.

Ingredients 

  • 3 bananas sliced and frozen, or you can freeze it all after!
  • ¼ cup almond milk unsweetened
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 tbsp cocoa powder

Instructions

  1. Does “cocoa” mean unsweetened cocoa powder usually used for baking, or hot cocoa mix? If the latter, did you use regular or sugar free? Thanks!

      Hi Kirsten, that is correct. It helps with the texture to have the bananas frozen beforehand and then again after!

I’m so sad that all these nicecream recipes use banana as a base because I’m allergic to bananas. :( The alternative I’ve seen on other recipes is usually avocados for creaminess, but it doesn’t have the sweetness, so then you have to soak and add dates, and then how many points it is skyrockets. Do you have any suggestions?

    1. I wish I had an answer for this! I don’t know of any other options though, besides the banana and avocado ;)

      In the past I made ice cream sandwiches using fat free cool whip and gram crackers. I wonder if you could do the same thing just add the other ingredients. Whipping cream works also. You whip it up and add sweetener. Points would be different. I use natural honey. I’m allergic to imitation sweetness. Caused my fibromyalgia.

    3. Just had chocolate avocado ice cream…delicious.

      blend then place in ice cream pot for 20 minutes
      Unbelievable!nmade 8 2scoop servings

    a few drops of liquid stevia will sweeten it without changing consistency or points. Just a thought if you are allergic to bananas and using avocado.

    Thanks for the recipe. I calculated the points and because the bananas are frozen it told me the points would be 7 smart points.

      Hi Margaret,

      Freezing fruit or vegetables does not change their point value. The only time that fruit or vegetables that are normally zero points, have points is when they are blended for a drink. In things like soup, salsa, ice cream, or sauces where you are still going to be eating them with a spoon the blended rule does not apply.

      I chatted with WW on the website just to be sure and they confirmed. They offered this suggestion: A good rule of thumb is that the first 1/2 cup per day of blended frozen bananas is zero points. I personally do not count them for this recipe because it’s eaten with a spoon.

      At the end of the day we all have to do what works for us! Based on the serving size, the ingredients, and the process, we have to make the decision on how to count them that we think is right. When in doubt you can always ask in the WW chat like I did, they’re very helpful and happy to answer questions. Barbara helped me sort out the calculation for these bananas in just a few minutes :)

    1. It tastes a little like bananas. If you don’t mind bananas you probably wouldn’t even notice.

      1. Can I use room temp bananas in a frozen yogurt / ice cream maker? I got one from my mom and really want to use it for something like this :)

  11. Hi, I see that it’s 1 point for all plans but for what serving size? A cup ?

    1. A serving is half of the recipe. This can change a bit based on the size of your bananas.

    So happy to find this!! I’ve been looking for ways to use the frozen sliced Bananas I keep from the too ripe ones I don’t use other than smoothies. Also, I absolutely love ice cream (are we all screaming now), but I’m diabetic and can’t have sugar. The sugar free store ones are too expensive. $4.79, I don’t think so!! Thanks for this, just finished licking the bowl, ehm…I mean making it. Can’t wait to take it out tonight!!
