Ingredients for Coffin Shaped Halloween Pop Tarts
- Pie Crust: Ready to bake refrigerated pie crust (I used Pillsbury brand, you can find it in the refrigerated section).
- Jelly: Any flavor (I’m partial to strawberry pop tarts, though!)
- Vanilla frosting: You’ll use the vanilla frosting to draw spider webs and spiders on the pop tarts.
- Piping bag or Ziplock bag: Piping bags are great, but using a ziplock bag in a pinch is just perfect. Be sure to cut a small hole in one corner so you don’t draw too thick of spider webs on your coffin pop tarts.
- Coffin cookie cutter:There are several different options available online, we liked this one because it’s stainless steel.
How to Make Homemade Coffin Pop Tarts:
- Preheat your oven to 350º F. Lightly grease a cookie sheet with olive oil.
- Sprinkle flour on a cutting board or clean countertop, and unroll one pie crust. While these don’t have to be fresh from the fridge, they can’t be room temperature–you’re going to want chilled dough for these.
- Use the coffin cookie cutter to cut 12 coffin shapes from the pie crust.
- Place six of the coffins on a cookie sheet or baking stone.
- With a spoon, add a small amount of jelly filling into the center of the pie crust as shown. Be sure to keep the filling away from the pastry edges so your pop tarts don’t leak in the oven. The goal here is definitely don’t overfill.
- Carefully place the remaining coffin pieces on top of the jelly.
- Use the fork tines to seal the edges of each pop tart. The fork tines are perfect to help seal the jelly inside the coffin pop tarts.
- Poke a few small holes on the top of your pop tarts with a fork so steam can escape. This will prevent them from ending up big and puffy.
- Bake in a 350º oven for 20-25 minutes or until slightly brown.
- Remove from oven and allow to cool completely.
- After the pop tarts cool completely, fill a piping bag or sandwich bag with vanilla frosting. You can also buy a small tube of white cookie icing.
- Cut a small hole in one corner of the piping bag, pipe a spiderweb on top. If you’re not an artist, decorate with Halloween sprinkles instead!

Recipe Tips
- Use an egg wash if you’d like these to be a little fancier and shinier. It won’t change the taste at all, but it’ll add an extra step before baking and the end product will look different.
- You can top these with powdered sugar instead of frosting if you’d like–it’s delicious!
- You can use use jelly or jam to make these–I prefer strawberry jam.
- You can make your own pie crust if you’d like. I use the refrigerated crust because I’ll do anything to not pull out my food processor some days.
- If you have any remaining spooky coffin pop tarts, store in an airtight container and refrigerate. If you have many remaining, be sure to put parchment paper in between the coffins if you need to stack them on top of each other.
- If you aren’t too sure you are up for creating frosting art, feel free to sprinkle with halloween sprinkles instead.
